Travel Plan Leh Ladakh
(J & K)



Expeditions are planned from June 15, 2017 to October 15, 2017



We invite you to familiarize yourself with the below plan of travel by motorcycles Royal Enfield 500cc or Himalyan by the highest traffic-permissible road in the world located in the Indian part of Himalay - Leh Ladakh (J & K).



Day 1



DELHI



Arrival to Delhi. First contact with India - with culture, including the one on the road. Rest. Overnight ride with a VIP-VOLVO coach to Manali.



Day 2



MANALI AND SURROUNDINGS



(130 km - all day)


Arrival in Manali, hotel accommodation, breakfast. After a short rest - get acquainted with Royal Enfield motorcycles and drive on Indian roads. Excellent climate (height 2100 m above sea level), moderate traffic on the streets, will allow us to quickly adapt to local conditions. Visiting Hadimba temple, Manu temple, drive up a narrow street to the village of Vashisht. There restoring strength bath in hot sulfur springs - in a stone bath house, located in the temple. Transfer by motorbikes to Kullu-42 km. There - in favorable weather conditions - rafting on the turbulent Beas River, or alternatively - a motorcycle tour of the beautifully situated town of Kullu, and on the way back - visit to the castle in Naggar. This 100-mile "warm-up" will give us an idea of ​​Indian traffic, drivers' habits and let us "tame" Enfield. In the evening, a welcome dinner in the hotel - tasting the local cuisine.



Day 3



MANALI-ROHTANG PASS-KEYLONG-JISPA



(140 km - 8 hours)


Shortly after breakfast - a trip by motorcycles from Manali, to the north. 50-kilometer driveway to the altitude of 3980 m above sea level - to the Rohtang pass. It is the geographical boundary between continental India and Tibetan as a Ladakh. In Tibetan, Rohtang - means "Stack of Thousand Bodies." A place that is notorious for only a few years, safe for mass vehicular traffic, although requiring great caution. Adrenaline guaranteed! Exit from the pass, drive through the picturesque Chandra valley, through the villages of Koksar, Sissu, Gondhla. In the village of Tandi, at the confluence of the rivers Chandra and Bhaga - the last refueling. Next - for 350 km. A short tour of the town of Keylong and in the evening reach the last "normal" hotel on the route, in the village of Jispa.



Day 4



JISPA - BARALACHA PASS - SARCHU



(100 km - 7 hours)


Today - the beginning of the "lunar" route. Drive through Darcha- the last permanently inhabited settlement. Serpentine to Zing Zingbar, a long driveway to the first high Himalayan pass - Baralacha La- 4891 m above sea level. On the way we pass the Surajtal and Dipaktal mountain lakes. Access to Sarchu - a seasonal settlement located on a vast plain. This is the point where drivers usually stay overnight. Several tents-stores with alcohol, several tents with a field kitchen. Accommodation base is a tiny, makeshift hotel, which also houses small kitchens. Our accommodation - in luxurious tents, with electricity and a toilet. Exploration of the area on motorcycles.



Day 5



SARCHU - LEH



(253 km - 10 hours)


In the morning, start from Sarchu, the road goes along the Yunam River, and the eyes attract fantastically shaped rocks. After 20 km driveway with serpentine-21 bends, known as Gatta Loops. Nakee La, the pass at 4739 leads us to the most interesting section of the route. The Lachulung La Pass, 5100 m- is the first of the five-thousanders. The next pass - Kang La- 4878, leads us to the Pang settlement. Rock formations resemble more Arizona than India. Pang-4767 is the world's highest military camp. After a short rest in the Tibetan camp - driving through the plain of Moorey Plains - at an altitude of 4500 m. Finally, the opportunity to throw the fifth gear. A mighty climb to the Tanglung La pass, which, with a height of 5,400 m, is the second highest mountain pass in the world, accessible for vehicular traffic. Exit through the villages of Rumtse, Gya, Lato, a deep canyon along the Kyammar River. After the checkpoint in Upshi- the last 50 km, finally on a good asphalt. Accommodation in a hotel in Leh, the capital of Ladakh.



Day 6



LEH - MONASTYR'S CAPITAL



A day-long tour of Leh and the surrounding area. The Old Town of Old Leh, drive up to Tsemo Hill, visit the 8-story Royal Palace. Motorcycle trip to Shey, Thikse and Hemis - visiting wonderful Buddhist monasteries. Return the other side of the Indus River, through villages inhabited by Muslim population.



Day 7



LEH - KHARDUNG LA - NUBRA VALLEY. DESERT IN HIMALAYS.



40 km uphill ride to Khardung La-5602 m above sea level. The highest pass for civil traffic in the world. Serpentine downhill to the Nubra Valley, located at the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers. This huge valley, called the Valley of Flowers, separates Ladakh from the Karakorum range. In the village of Hunder- oasis in the desert of Nubra-safari on bactrians-bivouac camels, on desert dunes, at sunset. Concert of a local folklore band in the vicinity of the dunes. Overnight in Hunder.



Day 8



HUNDER - LEH



After breakfast at the hotel in Hunder- drive 8 km to Diskit. Go there to the hill and visit the XV-century monastery. Panoramic view of the valley. Driving over the cliffs along the Shyok River. Return to Leh through the Khardung La pass.



Day 9



LEH - PANGONG TSO



Morning departure towards Pangong Lake. It is the highest saltwater lake in Asia and the largest lake in Asia. Only 30% of its area belongs to India, the remaining 2 / 3- is the territory of Tibet. In order to reach it, we have to overcome the switch Chang La-5340 m- # 3 on the list of the highest passable roads in the world! Overnight in a camp - a luxury tent right on the lake, at a height of 4420 m.



Day 10



SPANGMIK - LEH



Morning walk around the village of Spangmik, which for half a year is cut off from the world. In winter, the lake freezes and the temperature drops to minus 45 * C. The last glance at the sapphire sheet of Pangong Lake. Return the same route, through the Chang La Pass towards Leh. On the way, visit Chemrey Gompa - a Buddhist complex situated on a hill. Sunset on the hill of the Spituk monastery, overlooking the entire Leh, visiting the Shanti Stupa.



Day 11



LEH - CHUMATHUNG - TSO MORIRI



(220 km)


Today, a long route, but half of it leads along the Indus Valley. On the way, rest in Chumathung - hot sulfur springs, the effects of the "boiling river". Drive through the Rupshu Valley. On the way, guaranteed with flocks of Himalayan marmots. Drive through Mahe Bridge. Lake Tso Moriri, located at 4,200 m, is astonishing at every moment the color of the water. Pastures on the lake are occupied by Changcha tribes during the day. In the evening, several thousand sheep and goats flock to the village of Phu, located between the mountains. In the winter they move to the lake. The symbiosis of Ladakhi people from the Korzok village and Changpa nomads has been going on for centuries. The shores of Tso Moriri are a bird sanctuary, a place where famous Tibetan geese come. Overnight in a tent camp (luxury tents) at the lake. The Korzok village is located at an altitude of 4500 m.



Day 12



KORZOK (TSO MORIRI) - TSOKAR LAKE - PANG - SARCHU



(235 km - 8 hours)


After breakfast, leave the village of Korzok and follow the Tso Moriri lake towards the salt lake Tsokar. We cross the Polo-Kongka Pass (5171 m) and we reach the village of Thukje via a stone path. After a few hours we return to the Leh-Manali route. Driving through Moorey Plains - flat plateau, located at an altitude of 4500 m. Short stop for lunch in Pang. It is the highest permanent military camp in the world. In the evening we get to Sarchu. Overnight in a camp (luxury tents) on the border of Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh.



Day 13



SARCHU-MANALI



(232 km - 10 hours)


After leaving the Sarchu plain, we again enter the lunar, deserted land. Farewell to five thousand passes on Baralacha La, exit to Darcha and Jispa. Rest in Koksar, before the steep uphill drive with countless serpentines on Rohtang Pass. A 50-kilometer long drive to Manali. On this episode, we go down 2 km. Accommodation in a hotel. Farewell to motorcycles.

MANALI



Rest day and sightseeing / shopping in Manali.



Day 15



MANALI – DELHI



Transfer from Manali to Delhi airport (Toyota Innova).
